The Compute Canada Resource Allocation Committee (RAC) has extended the deadline for call for proposals until September 16, 2009 at 16:00 EDT. The WestGrid RAC is aligning its process and also extending the deadline for proposals to the WestGrid Local RAC until September 16, 2009 at 16:00 EDT.

This year WestGrid is pleased to announce it will be issuing its Local Resource Allocation Committee (LRAC) call for proposals in conjunction with the Compute Canada National Resource Allocation Committee (NRAC) call for proposals. Users who fit the criteria can submit a proposal to the NRAC, well all other users should submit a proposal to the WestGrid LRAC.

The IEEE International Conference on Cluster Computing (Cluster 2009, http://www.cluster2009.org/),  will be held in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, from 31 August to 4 September 2009.  This conference series, which started in 2000 following a successful workshop the previous year, focuses on all aspects of cluster computing research being done in academia, industry, and government.  Cluster 2009 covers:

New infrastructure recently installed at the University of British Columbia (UBC) was ranked #163 on the 33rd TOP500 list. WestGrid installed an Orcinus - Cluster Platform 3000 BL2x220, E54xx 3.0 Ghz, Infiniband at UBC, purchased earlier this year from Hewlett-Packard.

TORONTO, June 18 -- The University of Toronto's SciNet Consortium, Compute Canada, and IBM today announced the completion of a new supercomputer facility at SciNet that has a peak processing power of more than 300 trillion calculations per second, making it Canada's most powerful supercomputer and one of the most powerful and energy-efficient supercomputers in the world.
