System fully operational

Greetings,

Silo controller has been restored to full service. Appears to have been a firmware bug that should not recur with any frequency, but I've asked DDN for further analysis.  The expectation seems to be that it is unlikely that the problem will recur before Silo is retired.

Cheers,

Rob Wagner

Silo - System available with reduced redundancy

Hello everyone,

A redundant controller has crashed in Silo, resulting in reduced redundancy (and possibly slower throughput) on the system.   A ticket has been opened with DDN and we will attempt to bring the secondary controller back online as soon as possible.   If there is a hardware failure, we will provide further communication.

Robert Wagner

Silo - Non-disruptive maintenance

Hello everyone,

Thursday morning, around 9:00am we will perform some minor maintenance procedures provided by our vendor on the Silo disk subsystem. This maintenance is expected to be non-disruptive, Silo is expected to be fully available. The vendor believes this may improve data transfer performance.

Robert Wagner

Silo 1 hour downtime is required for transfer performance tuning

Hello everyone,

We need to re-mount file systems with new parameters in order to boost read performance required for sustaining data transfer rate. We plan to have one hour outage for Silo starting at 13:00 CST  November 25th, 2016 and ending at 14:00 CST November 25th, 2016.

Silo - Performance will degrade due to data migration

Hello everyone,

Data migration from Silo to new ComputeCanada storage has begun. We expect some performance degradation due to high load on Silo storage nodes.

Silo downtime has been scheduled for November 9th 2016

Dear Silo users,

due to recent RedHat Linux vulnerability "DirtyCOW" we need to patch Silo nodes as soon as possible to protect our storage before migration of data begins. This condition puts us in difficult time frame and therefore we cannot wait the usual two weeks prior to scheduling downtime. Silo nodes will be shut down and unavailable starting 0800 CST on November 9th 2016 and we expect to complete our patching by 1300 CST on the same day.

Regards,
Sergiy Stepanenko
