CANARIE Issues $4.5M Call for Proposals Supporting Re-Use of Research Software
Funding to be awarded for the modification and maintenance of existing platforms to meet needs of new research teams
[Ottawa, Ontario | December 4, 2017]
CANARIE, a vital component of Canada’s digital infrastructure supporting research, education and innovation, today announced a second Call for Proposals that invests in research software teams to adapt their existing research platforms to support researchers from other disciplines. Additional funding is available to support ongoing maintenance of the platform, the development of additional platform functionality, onboarding of additional research teams, and user support.
A research platform is a software package that fully supports a large portion of researchers’ activities and workflow. The purpose of this Call is to:
- Provide researchers with funding to adapt existing software to meet their research needs;
- Reduce software development duplication by promoting the sharing of new platforms and reducing new development; and
- Extend platform lifetimes and support a larger base of researchers by providing a maintenance funding model.
