Dr. Raymong Ng is Raymond Ng a professor of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia and the Director of the Data Science Institute. He is also the part-time Chief Informatics Officer of the PROOF Centre of Excellence for the Prevention of organ failures, and since 2016, has been the holder of the Canadian Research Chair on Data Science and Analytics. Dr. Ng's research areas are data mining, text mining, health informatics, sensor analytics and data bases.

VanBUG (Vancouver Bioinformatics Users Group) is an association of researchers, other professionals and students in the BC Lower Mainland who have an interest in the field of bioinformatics. VanBUG meets on the second Thursday of every month from September through April. Research presentations by bioinformatics leaders, students and industry representatives are followed by networking over pizza and refreshments.
