Description

This workshop series will provide hands-on introductions to essential tools and skills used in computational research. You can attend single sessions or the entire series. There is no cost to attend but you must register online in advance.

Researchers in all disciplines are invited to participate. No prior experience is required for any of the topics being covered.

Schedule:

  • January 15 - 18, 2019
  • Each day will follow the same schedule:
    • 9:00 am - noon - Morning Session
    • Noon - 1:00 pm - Lunch Break (attendees responsible for their own lunch)
    • 1:00 - 4:00 pm - Afternoon Session

  • Day 1 (Tue Jan-15)
    Moving your research from Windows-based desktops to Linux and command line in remote servers
  • Day 2 (Wed Jan-16)
    Introduction to HPC: using clusters to speed up your research
  • Day 3 (Thu Jan-17):
    Introduction to scientific visualization: plotting, interactive 3D, scripting, animation, large datasets
  • Day 4 (Fri Jan-18):
    Foundations of parallel programming and the Chapel programming language
