Coast to Coast Seminar on February 7: Spectral Analysis & Dynamical Behaviour of Complex Networks

Join us on Tuesday, February 7 at 11:30 am (Pacific) for the kick-off session of the Spring 2012 Coast to Coast Seminar Series:

Speaker: Ljiljana Trajkovic, School of Engineering Science
Broadcast Live from: Simon Fraser University

Spectral Analysis and Dynamical Behavior of Complex Networks
Discovering properties of the Internet topology is important for evaluating performance of various network protocols and applications. The discovery of power-laws and the application of spectral analysis to the Internet topology data indicate a complex behavior of the underlying network infrastructure that carries a variety of the Internet applications. In this talk, we present analysis of datasets collected from the Route Views and RIPE projects. The analysis of collected data shows certain historical trends in the development of the Internet topology. While values of various power-laws exponents have not substantially changed over the recent years, spectral analysis of matrices associated with Internet graphs reveals notable changes in the clustering of Autonomous Systems and their connectivity.

This session is being broadcast at participating WestGrid partner institutions. Visit the Seminar Locations page to find a host site near you.

HPCS 2012 Call For Papers Now Online

HPCS 2012, which is being held alongside the BCNET Conference on May 1 - 3 in Vancouver, BC, is now accepting papers on any HPC-related topic. The deadline for abstract submissions is March 15. Topics areas for papers include, but are not limited to, the following subjects:

  • Applications of HPC to any discipline in the physical, life and social sciences, and engineering
  • Computer architectures
  • Parallel/distributed/vector algorithms
  • Grid or cloud computing and related tools
  • Performance Modeling Evaluation
  • Wide-area data transfer
  • Management of large data sets
  • Green HPC or energy-efficient data centres
  • Visualization
  • Systems and Management

Accepted papers presented as lectures or posters will be published online in the open access Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS), which is published by the Institute of Physics Publishing in the UK. All papers published in JPCS are fully citable and upon publication will be free to download. Citations to JPCS papers are tracked online using IOP Publishing’s citing articles facility, in addition to the full citation tracking facilities provided by Scopus.

For more information, or to submit your abstract online, please visit the HPCS 2012 website or email 2012@hpcs.ca.

CCDB Renewal Instructions

A message was sent to all users registered on the Compute Canada Database (CCDB) on January 9, 2012. This message was intended to inform all users that over the course of this year, everyone who has registered with CCDB will be required to renew his or her account. Please note that each user will receive a separate email providing the instructions for renewal. To ensure a smooth transition, Compute Canada will be staggering the requests to renew over the course of the year. Please do not log into CCDB to renew your account until you receive the follow up email with this request and the detailed instructions. If you have any questions please email accounts@westgrid.ca.

2012 RAC Allocations

The 2012 Resource Allocation Committee (RAC) allocation notifications have been sent to all Principal Investigators. All Compute Canada resources will be updated with allocations for 2012 as of Monday, January 9 at 11:00 am (Pacific). Final allocations will be posted to the Compute Canada and WestGrid websites shortly. If you have any questions regarding the 2012 allocations, please contact support@westgrid.ca.
